October Player of the Month

Club news
November 18, 2024

We're only a couple of months into the season and already the battle for Player of the Month is hotting up. This month is possibly the toughest decision the committee have had to make, such are the quality of the nominations.

As ever a MASSIVE well done to everyone on this list, it's brilliant to read about how well you're doing.

Mini’s

Harvey Jones’ hunger for the game at his age is immense.1st one to training, last one to leave. He gets every little drill we do but most importantly he loves training. Harvey is willing to improve, always willing to help me and the new additions to the sessions. He’s been mascot twice at the main club, another thing he loves doing. He’s also a considerate little lad too. He’s going to be a proper player and a really good team mate to have in any team

Keep up the good work Harvey

Under 8’s

I’d like to nominate Albert Darker (Bertie). He only joined the team this season already familiar with a couple of the boys. His first couple of sessions he was extremely shy and quiet and unsure, but as the weeks have gone on he has completely opened up and cracked on. Scores several goals and sets up plenty for the boys too, I threw him completely in the deep end and put him out his comfort zone by playing him in defence and my god I think his found his calling, for a small boy he is extremely mighty. He makes some unbelievable challenges and gets back up like it’s nothing. His fearlessness and bravery is a great asset to this team. Well done Bertie we’re very proud of you,

Under 10’s

Our POTM nomination is for Cloud Foster-Stone.

Cloud was given the capability at the start of the season in recognition of the way he applies himself to every training session/match. He's a great listener and makes every effort to improve his game at every opportunity.

He leads by example and sets the tone for his teammates to follow. Cloud demonstrates great skill, has scored some terrific goals and has stood out for the under 10's throughout October.

Under 11’s

I'd like to nominate Slay as player of the month for October.

Slay accelerated into a fresh gear during the month. He was instrumental to the team achieving their very first win. Slay treats every training session as if it were a match. He has quickly learned how to press, put pressure on defences and force errors. He regularly capitalises on mistakes and has created and scored a majority of the teams’ goals as a result of his persistence and tenacity. His performances have been high-energy and packed with desire and determination. Slay also adds a real positive energy to the group. He can regularly be heard rousing and encouraging his teammates during games. There is so much more to come from Slay, and I can't wait for the next chapter!

Under 12’s

Player of the month for the under 12 lions this month will be Amira.

Amira is an absolute talent, her commitment and dedication to her team is really something special always striving to reach her full potential as a football player and as part of the team.

It's not easy for girls playing in mixed teams but Amira absolutely loves it and will challenge majority of players she comes up against in the game. Her silky skills, pace and determination are just a few of her qualities she brings to the team and gives her the title of assist queen, recently been signed to the Peterborough girls academy as well it's an absolute pleasure to have her as part of our amazing team of players.

Under 13 Panthers

Jakub is U13 Panthers player of the month for October. This last month has been tough for us, as a team. But Jakub has grown as a player and a young man, during October. He has put 100% into every training session and every match, earning himself player of the match twice as well as getting the opportunity to captain one of the games. While results have gone against us Jakub has become a real leader and motivator within the team and someone that is thought of in high regard by players, coaches and parents alike. He really is an asset to the team with great mentality and professionalism beyond his years.

Under 13 Lions

This month, we're thrilled to name Theo as Player of the Month. Over the last couple of seasons, Theo has put in exceptional effort, and this month his hard work has truly paid off with outstanding performances. He’s shown incredible aggression and dynamism on the field, and his growing confidence in driving the ball forward and creating chances has been game changing. Not only has he contributed with numerous assists, but he’s also started to find the net himself, achieving an impressive first-half hat-trick. While Theo is typically quiet off the field, he comes alive on it—demonstrative when needed and fearless in every tackle. Fantastic job, Theo. Well done!

Under 14 Tigers

Liam Jones is our nomination for October. It's hard for a Coach's kid to ever win something like this, they are normally overlooked even for simple Player of the Match awards so that there can be no suggestion of bias - even when they've worked their socks off and clearly deserve it - but this time I just can't overlook what Liam has done.

Our season started late, almost October, and from then until the start of November we played 4 games and won 4 games. Liam has been a huge part of those successes, scoring 8 goals himself and getting praise from all the opposition coaches we went up against for working tirelessly in several different positions to fill in wherever we needed him to, another curse of being the Coach's kid!

This is normal for Liam, he's a good footballer, powerful, fast, strong and determined. But the reason I have to nominate him is how Liam has developed as a leader in the team, and there are lots of examples of that too. Without being asked to, he took it upon himself to take a couple of teammates to one side at half time during a game and speak to them about how they could contribute more to the team in the second half. I mentioned him playing anywhere he was needed; he's also identified for himself where someone was struggling against someone faster or stronger than them during a game and asked to trade positions so that he can shoulder that responsibility and give his team mate a break. There are lots of other little examples I could share, but I know how many of these people have to read, so I'll end with just one more....

Liam was told by a referee during a game recently that 'if we wanted to win the game, he needed to be more selfish with the ball', but that's just not in Liam's nature. Liam arguably should be playing at a higher level than our team is right now, but rather than jump ship to another team, he's determined to help his team climb to those levels instead, and throughout October he's worked hard to set an example for others to follow, both in terms of individual contribution, and in being part of a team.

If those examples inspire just a few of our other players, we'll be climbing leagues very soon.

Under 15’s

Our POTM nomination for October 2024 is Caleb King!

October has seen the start of a real pick up on form for the team and thus reflecting results - the team are on a 3-match winning run in the league and cup 🙂 We have also recently lost a couple of players but have been blessed with a couple of new signings as well, but throughout this the team has remained strong and tight as a unit.

Caleb very much falls into this category of being a player that has very much kept going with these and other challenges he has faced. Caleb was pretty much out of action for August and September having broken his collar bone outside of football.

It must have been very hard for him to rehabilitate to get back to football and other sports. Well, he did, and he came back with heaps of energy and bounce. He is always up for the challenge and is a huge part of this team. We have had some injuries on the team and in October he has played in multiple positions covering the team and unit as we needed. He has played at CB being part of a team that kept 2 clean sheets in 3 wins in October, he has played striker where he has scored a goal and led the front line in a game, and if that was not enough, he has also played as a wing back and attacking midfielder where and when needed.  Any position he plays he has slotted in and just does a job which is a sign of a very adaptable and clever footballer.  He has also not been phased with the new signings coming in, that could knock some players and their confidence, but he has come back from injury, accepted he is very much part of this team and done a job when required for his teammates.

He is getting taller and stronger, and he should use this to his advantage and build himself up more. Caleb is a very popular player on the team, always wants to join in, have fun and banter keeping the spirits up, he has an infectious smile that just makes me smile when I see him. Well done, Caleb, you have been a vital player for us this month and played a key part of the current good form. Keep going as you are and keep talking to us and the team, but always remember to listen as well which will make you grow even more, you have been brilliant and am proud to nominate you for October POTM.

After some heated debate, our winner for October is Liam from the Under 14 Tigers. Caleb was a very close second, and pleasingly they both shared similar themes of leadership and selflessness, some of the most important qualities we love to see our WTFC kids developing.

Well done everyone on this list, and thanks for all your hard work.
